holiday weekend (2)

Merry Christmas!

Started a new tradition this year: Pots and pans and confetti and lots of banging on....Christmas Eve!

Strangle hold in new Christmas Eve pajamas...

Bailey's new doll on Christmas morning...

Campbell's new game: Mouse Trap. I remember getting this game 30 years ago!!!

The tree comes down tomorrow...we plan on simply removing the two 15-pound barbells that are stabilizing it and let Newton's 2nd law take care of the rest.

holiday weekend

This morning Campbell and I spent three hours putting up and decorating the Christmas tree we cut down in the backyard yesterday. It was a rather large tree, although it didn't appear to be so while it was still standing (with roots). When we got it into the living room we realized half the tree (the side nearest the wall) would need a close shave. Even after taking such extreme measures the other half stuck half way across the room. We carefully put up 300 lights and scores of ornaments and decorations. We were feeling pretty good about ourselves (having done this in the absence of Angie and Bailey) and I had just put away all the boxes and was getting us some eggnog when I heard it fall, followed closely by the rush of water exiting the stand. Campbell was missed by only inches and decided right then and there it was time to take a nap (she is sick today).

I propped the tree up against the wall as best I could and mopped up the water with limited enthusiasm. I let Kiska in from the snowstorm raging outside and was just starting to get myself some lunch when I heard Kiska growl at something.....the tree. This, I realized at the time, was not a good sign; but rather than acting upon a dog's intuition I kept right on eating and the tree came crashing down again (without the rush of water this time). At that exact moment I knew what I was going to do. I turned off the tree lights, reassured Kiska that things would be all right, created myself a blog account and started writing.

Why, you might ask, would I consider blogging at this exact moment? The answer is quite simple actually. I've been putting "the blog" off for some time now due to being preoccupied with other more pressing matters, such as putting up a Christmas tree. But when I saw the past three hours of hard work dissolve away in a matter of a few carpet-soaking seconds I realized making time for a blog might not be as useless as I'd once thought.

Waiting for the next disaster....(to post my next blog)
